Mel was born on December 30, 1941 in Houston, Texas. He was an All-American halfback and defensive back at the University of Oregon and is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Mel was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 1964 NFL Draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first ten seasons in the NFL. He played in four Super Bowls, including the XII Super Bowl Champion Cowboys victory. He is a member of Texas Stadium Ring of Honor and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Read More
